Former Hamas official spouts variant of blood libel myth, blaming Jews for “every despicable deed” in Europe

Mustafa al-Lidawi, formerly a senior official of Hamas, has written a variant of the classic antisemitic blood libel myth in Ma’am, an Arabic newspaper.

Al-Lidawi called Purim a “holiday that the people of Europe hated and detested and wished that the Jews would leave their countries so they could be saved from their wickedness”. He continued that “this is because the Jews who lived in Europe would always bake a large pastry on the occasion of the holiday, and everyone would eat it. However, this pastry was mixed with the blood of a victim they chose from among those who were not Jews. Most of the time the victim was a little boy”.

Blood libel is an antisemitic myth that originated in England, and typically revolves around the accusation that Jews used the blood of Christian children to bake matzah. However, it has many variants, most of which involve accusations of Jews engaging in ritualistic killing. Blood libel was imported into the Middle East by Imperial powers and has become a prominent part of contemporary Islamist antisemitism.

Al-Lidawi linked this blood libel to Israel, stating that “his Jewish mentality and this ancient Jewish nature have not changed. For they fashioned their joy from the blood of others, hold their celebrations at the expense of the sighs and groans of the victims who they tortured, and base their happiness on the sorrow of others”.

His comments are a disturbing reminder that behind the purported political motivations of Hamas, a proscribed terrorist organisation, there lies a hardcore antisemitism that mirrors the same mentalities that fuelled hundreds of years of persecution of Jews in Europe.  Whilst the fact that someone who was a senior official in Hamas has made such blatantly antisemitic comments is not remotely surprising, his comments provide a telling illustration of the profound antisemitism at the heart of the terrorist group.

UN drops Palestinian “Supermom” who claims Jews drink Arab blood, yet Amnesty International fail to act

Crowned a “Supermom” by the Arab press, Manal Tamimi, 45, a pro-terrorist Palestinian activist, has recently lost her status as a UN “human rights defender” because of antisemitic tweets that accuse Jews of drinking Palestinian blood.

On September, 2015, this post appeared on Tamimi’s Twitter feed: “Vampire zionist celebrating their Kebore Day [Yom Kippur] by drinking Palestinian bloods, yes our blood is pure and delicious but it will kill u at the end” (September, 2015).

Tamimi’s tweet promotes the classic blood libel, which goes back centuries, that Jews murder non-Jews, especially children, so that Jews can use their blood to bake matzos for Passover, and re-enact the crucifixion of Christ.

The tweet is part of a series of antisemitic tweets that Tamimi posted starting in 2015. The married mother of four calls for both violence against Jews, “Zio roaches”, and the destruction of Israel. The tweets are accompanied by vile drawings that pay tribute to Nazi era political cartoons.

“I do hate Israel, i do hate zionism, i wish a third Intefada  [Intifada] coming soon and people rais [raise] up and kills all these zionist settlers everywhere”. (August 1, 2015)

“…I have a very good Jew friends, I hate Zionists & I’m not denying that, Zionism, KKK and ISIS R all the same to me” (August 20, 2017)

“The much needed button–delete Israel” [referring to nuclear holocaust] (October 5, 2015)

“You will never make peace with vampires because the taste of your blood will always attract them” (March 31, 2016)

However, it is significant that Tamimi, who is constantly calling for the expulsion of Jews from Israel, only lost her honored title because of an official complaint about her tweets that was filed by the NGO Monitor, Jerusalem, a watchdog that tracks the activities of human rights groups. A letter of protest was delivered to the UN Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights.

In response to NGO Monitor’s complaint, Tamimi, the leader of the Popular Resistance Organization Committee, was removed from the list of “human rights defenders” that had been compiled by S. Michael Lynk, the UN special rapporteur on human rights in the disputed territories.

Earlier this year, Tamimi, who runs an online news service, the Tamimi Press, spoke at a  EU financed conference that was held in Barcelona, Spain. The topic was “preventing violent extremism”.

Her participation in that conference strains the boundaries of reason. Every Friday, for the past 7 1/2 years, Tamimi, her husband, Bilal, and their followers, have marched from their  village of Nabi Saleh, to the Jewish community of Halamish, where the group hurls rocks at the Israeli soldiers, who are guarding the town. On July 21, 2017, in Halamish, three members of the Salomon family were stabbed to death by Palestinian terrorists while they were having their Shabbat dinner.

It is important to note that Tamimi has not publicly condemned the murders, and, in fact,  sees nothing wrong with stone throwing. According to a report in the Algemeiner, “the Tamimi’s contend that the soldiers’ arrests of rock throwers constitutes persecution of the residents of Nabi Saleh”.

It is a given, however, that a thrown stone is as dangerous as a gun. In recent years at least 15 Israelis have been murdered as a result of stone throwing, and countless others have been injured. Given Tamimi’s mindset, it is deeply troubling that she was invited to appear at a conference that condemns violence.

And the fact that this conference was funded by the European Union is of great concern. NGO Monitor President Gerald Steinberg told the Algemeiner, “There is no excuse for funding Jew hatred in the guise of promoting peace…or for giving antisemites such as Tamimi the status of ‘human rights defenders'”.

Steinberg is highly critical of the actions of both the UN and the EU: “the disconnect between noble objectives and immoral actions has been clear for many years”. Steinberg believes that “full transparency and oversight for the massive sums [of money] going to radical NGOs is crucial so that this behavior is halted”.

However, unlike the UN, Amnesty International, has embraced Tamimi’s cause, despite her blatant antisemitism. According to the Algemeiner, “Amnesty has declared that Tamimi’s village, Nabi Saleh, is a “community-at-risk”.

Amnesty researcher, Saleh Hijazi, who has worked in the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) Ministry of Planning has publicly stated: “We need to tell the Israeli authorities: enough – you are no longer facing a tiny village on a small hill. You now have the entire Amnesty movement to reckon with”.

According to the Algemeiner, in an undated essay published in the Huffington Post, Edith Garwood, Amnesty International USA’s specialist on Israel, the disputed territories and the PA, wrote that Tamimi’s group from Nabi Saleh “face frequent violent repression from the Israeli army just for practicing their human rights to peacefully expression their opposition” to Israel.

Garwood believes that “even in cases where the protesters have thrown stones…these have posed little or no serious risk” to the targeted Israelis.

The fact that Garwood, a prominent Amnesty International official, can so easily disregard Tamimi’s virulent antisemitic tweets, while downplaying the connection between stone throwing and fatal traumatic brain injuries, should send up a red flag to the international community.

Amnesty International fails on all levels, as a social justice organization, when its contempt  for Israel is so great, that it whitewashes stone throwing as a form of legitimate peaceful protest.

What Amnesty International’s position regarding Tamimi’s remark that Jews are blood-drinking vampires is unknown.

However, what is known is that, in 2016, government officials banned Tamimi from entering the UK. The British Home Office  has refused to explain why Tamimi was denied a visa.

Palestinian TV: Jews stole Kim Kardashian’s diamonds

Last October a huge story hit the press worldwide, when Kim Kardashian and friend Simone Harouche were robbed at gunpoint in Paris, with Kim Kardashian’s diamond ring being among the things stolen.

The story attracted large amounts of attention in the world press, and it was eventually reported that the suspects were a group of men of differing backgrounds, some of whom were Jewish.

However, Palestinian Authority TV (PA TV) seized upon the opportunity of some Jews being implicated in a high profile crime to smear all Jews, having their “Israeli affairs expert” comment on the crime.

PA TV did not bother to mention that the majority of the suspects were not Jewish, with 15 non-Jews also allegedly being involved.

The “expert” provided the following comment:

“Jews who robbed singer (sic.) Kim Kardashian have been arrested. It turns out that they are Jews. That is what is written – it’s not me who says they are thieves. That is written in [the Israeli daily] Yediot Aharonot, it’s not from me. It says “Jews.” They are thieves. In other words – they steal lands here too, no? But the engagement ring worth $5 million could not be found. They did not find it. The Jews hid it and turned it into something else”

Palestinian Media Watch points out that this demonstrates that the antisemitism in PA TV is so deeply ingrained that “even a single mention of two Jews anywhere in the world in a negative context is all that is needed launch another PA Antisemitic rant”. This is a poignant point – there is no attempt to provide either genuine analysis of the crime, or to even portray the events accurately. It is simply an opportunity to milk a high profile public event to demonise Jews and to entrench antisemitism in the Palestinian population.

Palestine activist implies another Holocaust is coming, spouts blood libel

Mamal Tamimi, a member of the Palestinian  Tamimi family renown for their anti -Israel protests is shown to use social media to express highly inflammatory  anti-semitic messages and images in an article from Israellycool dated 16th September 2016.

“Much has already been written about her support for terror against Israel. But what is perhaps less known is that she is an out-and-out Jew hater”, states Aussie Dave.

His article contains examples of Mamal Tamimi’s postings which demonise Israelis, are wholly offensive against Jews in the context of the Holocaust,  describing Zionists as “zionazis”; contains highly defamatory age-old anti-semitic prejudices  including blood libel and child killings. She is also shown to express denial of Jewish identity against Ashkenazi Jews; and espouses false claims which deny Jewish heritage to Israel and specifically to Temple Mount, and advocates killing Zionists.

One image she shared of the Grand Mufti and Hitler said, regarding the former’s support for the Holocaust, that Netanyahu should “b carful”, implying that another Holocaust is going to happen. She also shared an image which claimed that the “real Holocaust” was happening in Palestine; such a claim borders on Holocaust denial, as the sheer difference in deaths in the Arab-Israeli conflict and the Holocaust, and the fact that the Arab-Israeli conflict has been an armed conflict in which Israel has frequently been called upon to defend itself means that no meaningful comparison can be drawn between them.

Another image she shared was a cartoon of a Nazi beating a creature with a whip. The creature was depicted wearing a kippah, with peyot and with stereotypical “Jewish” features.

She has also shared an image purporting to show a quote from Menechem Begin in which he describes the Jews as the “master race”. Claims that Jews believe they are superior to other have been a common theme in antisemitism throughout the ages, yet are used almost entirely to incite hatred against Jewish people and their beliefs.

One picture she shared shows Haredi Jews searching through large dustbins. She captions it “Zionists searching for their history in Palestine”, clearly showing that when she speaks of “Zionists”, she is really just speaking about Jews.

She has written of “vampire Zionists…drinking Palestinian bloods” – a shameless rehashing of age-old blood libel.

Aussie Dave reports that the Tamimi family include teenager Shirley Temper , whose real name is Ahed Tamimi , renown for her anti-Israeli online videos. He claims that Mamal Tamimi is also involved in the Tamimi Press, which he describes as an anti-Israeli propaganda outlet owned by Ahed Tamimi’s father Bassem Tamimi, and  supported by some sections of the mainstream media, and smaller media like AMZ Productions of Oregon. This content demonstrates how easily anti-Zionist rhetoric can feed into pure, unadulterated antisemitism.

Holocaust denial and antisemitism in Palestinian and Egyptian news sites

El Badil,  an Egyptian news site published a series of anti-semitic and Holocaust denial articles that were  republished by Palestenian TV Network Wattan News, reports the online American Jewish newspaper The Algemeiner on 22nd August, 2016.  The Algemeiner claims that the articles appeared in four parts: part one denies Jews exist as a people stating that Ashkanazi Jews are Khazars; part two states Jews use the ‘myth of the chosen people to manipulate the world to do their bidding’; part three denies Israel as the promised land and claims Jews have no historical ties to the region, essentially depriving Jews of part of their history; part four cites ‘renowned’ Holocaust deniers including Fred Leuchter, David Irving, and Ernst Zundel as ‘experts’, using their work as ‘evidence’ to deny the Holocaust , the use the of gas chambers and that claim there were only three million Jews in Europe before World War Two, thereby denying the count that six million Jews died during the conflict.

The articles were all titled “Zionist lies”

” Denial that Jewish people exist and that Jews were slaughtered by the Nazis are framed as if they are merely anti-Zionist positions”, the report claims. Adding further that Arab media are complaining about Arab refugees being shown death camps as history lessons and reprimanded if observed comparing Israeli activities to Nazi actions.

The use of the ‘Kharazian hypothesis’ is both scientifically flawed, as there is no evidence for it in genetic studies, and is a common thread within antisemitic discourse. Similarly, the

Palestinian writer claims Israel buys ISIS slaves and converts them to Judaism

A Gaza-based journalist has accused Israel of buying slave-girls from ISIS and converting them to Judaism, as well as exploiting terrorist incidents and natural disasters, during an antisemitic rant on Turkish television.

Tawfiq Abu Shomar made the accusations on 15th January in an appearance on the TRT Arabic channel, claiming that Israel does so in order to strengthen its Jewish population.

He said: “For a long time Israel has been striving to bring over the Jews, especially from Europe. They especially want the Jews of France, because they consitute the largest comunity, numbering half a million. My warning should be viewed in context. Israel attracts the (Jewish) immigrants, that’s true, but it also takes advantage of the circumstances in order to bring them.

“This is the main point. It uses natural circumstances, even earthquakes. During the 2010 Haiti earthquake, Israel brought over a large number of Haitians, and had them converted to Judaism. Many such children live (in Israel).

“Israel has benefited not only from France, but also from Iraq. It has brought over Yazidis. A large number of Yazidis are now being converted to Judaism and absorbed there. In addition to the ruling Jewish authorities, there are organisations abroad that buy slavegirls on the ISIS market and take them to Israel.”

Abu Shomar is described as a writer and political analyst, and is head of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society’s cultural department.

Palestinians routinely humiliated and put to death for selling land to Jews, according to report

An investigation by Israeli Channel 2 television has reported that it has discovered an activist who seeks out Palestinian Arabs who have sold land to Jews and arranges for them to be humiliated and executed by Palestinian police. The Palestinian Authority forbids the sale of land to Jews by law.

The investigation obtained a tape of far-left Israeli activist Ezra Nawi apparently bragging about how he reports Arabs who plan to sell land to Jews to the Palestinian Authority’s security forces, in the knowledge that they will be killed. “I hand them directly to the Palestinian security service,” Nawi says on the tape. When asked what happens once Palestinian Authority police arrests the sellers, Nawi says, “It catches them, kills them. First Zubur, then Gazanga.” According to the report, Zubur is an Arabic word used in Hebrew to describe humiliation and physical torment, and Gazanga is not a known word but implies death, in the context of the tape.

Senior Palestinian official continues attempt to revive mediaeval antisemitic blood libel

Top Palestinian official, Fatah Central Committee member Jamal Muhaisen, has become the latest Palestinian leader to repeat the modern version of the blood libel. Originating in England in the 1100s and spreading across Europe, the blood libel was the accusation that Jews kidnapped and murdered the Christian children to use their blood as part of their religious rituals. The Palestinian leadership has renovated this vile myth and now claims that Israeli Jews harvest the organs of dead Palestinians.

Speaking on official Palestinian television, Fatah Central Committee member Jamal Muhaisen said: “There are Israeli testimonies acknowledging that organs are being taken from the bodies of young Martyrs. While the body is with the Israelis, organs are taken according to Israel’s needs, and afterwards they hand over the body with conditions…including not allowing the body to be autopsied, in order to cover it up.”

Every part of the statement is false, other than that Israel really does hand over the bodies of Palestinians, despite the fact that they were usually killed whilst perpetrating a terrorist act against Israelis.

Palestinian official television broadcasts child saying “Treachery has been [Jews’] nature from the days of Moses”

On Christmas Eve, Palestinian official television broadcast a child warning that “Treachery has been their [Jews’] nature from the days of Moses until today.”

The full passage took the form of a warped antisemitic narrative of historical Jewish-Muslim relations:

“Today, children, I have come to tell you the story of my people, listen to it. We had land and a house, and we had a field, garden, and fireplace. In Jaffa we had a noble family with small children, and in Acre we had an oven and pottery. My people lived on the land from generations… I remember what my grandmother told me long ago: ‘Don’t forget these words, lock them in your heart and guard them: Palestine is Arab, its land is Arab, its language is Arabic, its identity is Arab’…This home was the home of our father, and the foreigners came to banish us. Long ago we were dear friends. Yona [the Jew] helped Fatima [the Arab] with the laundry and Fatima boiled milk for her, and lit the fire for her on the Sabbath. It does not surprise us [that they banished us]. Treachery has been their nature from the days of Moses until today. May Allah turn back every oppressor’s scheme. Say Amen with me.”

Palestinian girl on official television reads poem: “Our enemy, Zion, is Satan with a tail”

A young girl recited a poem on official Palestinian television that included the words “Our enemy, Zion, is Satan with a tail.” When she finished, the host of the Palestinian children’s program responded: “I really like this poem.”

Palestinian Media Watch has recently exposed four similar Palestinian broadcasts of children reciting this same poem with hate speech against Jews.

This latest broadcast came just two weeks after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor on Islam, Mahmoud Al-Habbash, preached in the Friday sermon that Israel is “Satan’s project,” and that Jews represent “evil.”

The full poem recited by the young girl describes what children have been taught by Arab leaders, but criticises them for not acting according to their own teachings. The poem opens with the line “When I was young I was taught,” and includes the words “our enemy, Zion, is Satan with a tail” as one of those teachings.

The full exchange between the presenter and the girl went as follows:

Palestinian television host: “What are you going to recite?”
Girl: “The poem ‘Visa’ [by Hesham El-Gakh]…
When I was young I was taught that Arabness is my honor…
and that our lands extend from one end to the other,
and that our wars were for the Al-Aqsa Mosque,
and that our enemy, Zion, is Satan with a tail
and that our nation’s armies are outstanding.”
Host: “Thank you very much. I really like this poem.”

Palestinian UNRWA teachers continue to post incitement to violence against Jews with impunity

UNRWA employees are continuing to post antisemitic images calling for Jews to be stabbed, despite having been reprimanded for doing so by the agency.

A new report from the Geneva-based UN Watch highlights ten recent Facebook and Twitter posts by UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency) teachers celebrating the murder of Jews.

One from an UNRWA English teacher, and graduate of the agency’s ethics course, named Suad Khalil Remawi states that “the Zionists and the Jews are sons of monkeys and pigs”. Another teacher called Mazen Abo Hady posted a photo of a Palestinian ripping through an Israeli flag with a blood-soaked knife.

UN Watch executive director Hillel Neuer said the report’s purpose was to urge UNRWA to dismiss employees who engage in such incitement, and show the agency’s largest donors – the United States and the European Union – where their annual $1 billion is going.

“UNRWA’s reported temporary suspensions of offenders are clearly not working,” said Neuer. “Giving a slap on the wrist sends the message that it’s business as usual. Instead, those who incite to racism or murder should be fired, under a zero tolerance policy.”

Monday’s was the latest in a series of UN Watch reports on the matter, previous ones having led the UNRWA to state it would “take appropriate action, including disciplinary action, where violations by UNRWA staff members are established”.

UN Watch submitted the report to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, UNRWA chief Pierre Krähenbühl, EU foreign affairs commissioner Federica Mogherini and US Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power.

Neuer added: “UNRWA’s strategy of impunity, denial and deflection only enables more incitement and violence. It’s time to put an end to the pattern and practice of UNRWA school principals, teachers and staff members posting antisemitic and terror-inciting images, a recurring theme that suggests a pathology of racism and violence within UNRWA, one that must be rooted out — and not buried, as UNRWA spokesman Chris Gunness has attempted to do by calling for boycotts of newspapers or of NGOs that dare to report these incidents of hate.”

Hamas leader in Gaza repeats blood libel that Jews eat blood of non-Jewish children

Speaking on Hamas Al-Aqsa Television, Salah Al-Bardawil, a Hamas leader in Gaza, said that Jews had “ancient biblical beliefs, which instructed them to kill children and collect their blood, in order to knead it into the bread that is eaten on Passover.” He continued: “This is the killing of a Palestinian child in order to collect his blood and to knead it into the bread they eat.” The blood libel that Jews kidnap and murder non-Jewish children in order to use their blood for ritual purposes is a major theme in historic European persecution of Jews which is constantly repeated by Palestinian leaders as a means of incitement.

Official Palestinian line on Paris terrorist attacks: Israel was behind it

Using classic antisemitic conspiracy theories, the Palestinian Authority has blamed Israel for the terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday. The official Palestinian Authority daily wrote:

The wise and correct thing is to look for who benefits. In short: They need to search the last place reached by the octopus arms of the Mossad… It is clear that its ‘Mossad’ will burn Beirut and Paris in order to achieve [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s goals. He, who challenged the master of the White House, hides in his soul enough evil to burn the world.

The official Facebook page of the Fatah party (the party of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who is about to enter the eleventh year of his four-year term) warned:

As a people who suffer daily aggressions by Israel we understand the suffering of the injured and the families of those who were killed in a cold blood…It is time to end the brutal Israeli occupation which breeds violence in the entire world.

These two extracts are only two of an avalanche of accusation from official Palestinian channels over the weekend.

Upon arriving at the scene of a double murder, Palestinian Red Crescent ambulances reportedly turned back around and left, when they saw that the survivors needing treatment were Jews. Palestinian terrorists had shot at the car of the Litman family which was travelling to a dinner in honour of their daughter’s forthcoming wedding this week. Rabbi Yaakov Litman, 40, and his son Nathaniel, 18, were murdered on the spot. According to Channel 2 News, a Red Crescent ambulance passed by the scene of the crime, slowed down, and, realising the victims were Jews, drove away. The Palestinian Red Crescent issued a statement calling the reports “falsehoods and rumours”.

Report reveals UNRWA employees’ incitement against Jews

A report into antisemitism among staff at the UN Relief and Works Agency has highlighted a series of disturbing recent posts on Facebook.

Hani Al Ramahi, who describes himself as a “Projects Support Assistant at UNRWA”, posted an image on October 8th in which a keffiyeh-clad man grasps a blood-covered knife bearing the Palestinian colours. The caption reads: “Stab Zionist dogs.”

Two days earlier on October 6th, fellow UNRWA employee Ibrahim Ali, who lives in Hebron, posted a series of videos on his timeline that glorify the shootings and stabbings of Israeli Jews.

Um Karam, who identifies himself as a teacher at UNRWA, posted the widely-distributed video of a sermon in which Sheikh Abu Rajab pulled out a knife and exhorted Palestinians to murder Jews in the name of Islam. And on October 4th an UNRWA employee named Saleh Mohsen celebrated the outbreak of such stabbing attacks against Israelis by calling for a “West Bank Intifada”.

These are only four of numerous similar cases highlighted by the report – for more details click here.
