A Greek minister, Dimitris Kammenos, has been forced to resign hours after being appointed. The announcement that the Independent Greeks party member would join the government sparked an outcry over antisemitic tweets sent from his official Twitter account, which has now been closed. One tweet on the anniversary of 9/11 said “And let’s not forget that among the 2,500 Jews working at the Twin Towers not one went to work that day.” Kammenos has also been accused of denigrating the Holocaust by comparing the EU to the Nazis on several occasions and claiming that Greece was going through an “economic Holocaust”.
