DC lawmaker offers sincere apology after blaming bad weather on “Rothschilds controlling the climate”

D.C. council member Trayon White Sr. has been pressured into apologising after suggesting that “Rothschilds” control the weather.

White wrote that “t just started snowing out of nowhere this morning, man. Y’all better pay attention to this climate control, man, this climate manipulation” before continuing to say “that’s a model based off the Rothschilds controlling the climate to create natural disasters they can pay for to own the cities, man. Be careful”.

Rabbi Daniel Zemel of Temple Micah in Northwest Washington, responding to the comments, wrote “This kind of anti-Semitism is unacceptable in any public official. This so diminishes what America is about and adds to the oppressive feeling going on in the country right now. We all have to be better. Public officials have to learn not to say the first ignorant thing that comes into their head”.

The Rothschilds are a family of Jewish financiers who often feature in antisemitic conspiracy theories, which attribute to them an unrealistic, and sometimes near-comical, amount of influence. Despite the ridiculous nature of many of these Rothschild family conspiracy theories, they are often near-identical to conspiracy theories that explicitly claim that Jews as a collective wield such power. As is clear from White’s comments, whilst the claims about the Rothschilds are often ridiculous and seem comical, they are not trifling, harmless ideas that should be written off as silly and humourous; White clearly attributes real malice to the Rothschilds, who want to harm others for their own gain. Such attitudes are far from harmless, and form a part of a culture in which Jews are blamed for all of society’s woes.

White thankfully quickly apologised for the comments, writing “I work hard everyday to combat racism and prejudices of all kinds. I want to apologize to the Jewish Community and anyone I have offended. The Jewish community have been allies with me in my journey to help people. I did not intend to be anti-Semitic, and I see I should not have said that after learning from my colleagues”. White appears to have been contacted by Jews United for Justice, claiming that the had helped him to “understand the history of comments made against Jews”.

White’s comments indicate that he has engaged in genuine dialogue with Jews United for Justice and is showing genuine remorse for having propagated these ideas, stating that he is “committed” to finding ways “to be allies with them and others”.

Church leader screams “let them Nazis get on you again” at Jewish shopkeeper in Seattle street

Footage has emerged of a Church leader in Seattle, Washington, berating a Jewish shopkeeper.

Omari Tahir-Garrett, who has served 21 months in prison for knocking out the Mayor in  a fight, repeatedly tells a Jewish store owner called Ian Eisenberg. to “go back to Germany” and tells him that he should “let them Nazis get on you again”.

Shockingly, this antisemite is apparently running for a position on the City council. On his website, he rather ironically speaks of fostering peace in the community.

The horrible rant can be viewed here.

Apparently the row started because Garrett is unhappy that Eisenberg’s shop opened next to his Church. However, there is an alcohol store that is also in the immediate vicinity.

Graffiti calling the Holocaust “fake history” at Seattle Synagogue

Temple De Hirsch Sinai, a Synagogue in Seattle, Washington, has been vandalized with Holocaust denying graffiti, with a suspicious package being found.

The graffiti read “Holocau$t i$ fake hi$story”.

Whilst Holocaust denial itself is unequivocally and universally antisemitic, the dollar signs carry a further antisemitic implication: that Jews have somehow exploited the Holocaust for financial game, perhaps an inevitable “twist” to the antisemitism of Holocaust denial, given that Jews being obsessed with money is a common antisemitic canard.

A suspicious package was also found, which police investigated, but it turned out to just be a book donation. The police are currently investigation the graffiti.

Jewish family’s cars set on fire, “Jews die” graffiti outside their house

A Jewish family have had their cars set on fire and had antisemitic graffiti spray-painted outside their house, in Burien, Washington.

“Jews die” and “14/88” were spray-painted onto their garage door. 14/88 is a reference to the 14 words, a creed used by neo-Nazis, and the number “88” which is a numerical code for “Heil Hitler”.

There was also Swastika graffiti.

The family have no idea who committed this crime, but are concerned for their safety and, unsurprisingly, expect it to be an intentional hate crime.

Police are treating this as an arson investigation. It is unknown whether they are also treating it as a hate crime. These acts are blatant acts of intimidation against an innocent Jewish family and must be treated with the appropriate severity by the Police.

Snowflakes into avalanches: antisemitic “Jew” rat graffiti in Washington

It would seem that even an artistic take, on a road safety endeavour, is not immune from antisemitism.

In the Chinatown district of Washington DC, an art installation, based on the Chinese zodiac, was created to bring fun, interest and enhanced safety to the diagonal “Barnes Dance” pedestrian crossing.

On the zebra-crossing element of the scheme, the rat zodiac images were graffitied with the word “Jew” on the main body. The authorities were alerted and the graffiti removed, only to reappear up to three times in one week.

Why is it important to highlight these incidences? On it’s own, incidences like this are annoying thorns; a cheap casual reminder that antisemitic canards and invectives lie just beneath the surface and in this case literally beneath one’s feet. Often, people can brush them off but, it is the accumulation of these incidences which means that many people cannot carry out the most mundane of tasks, (like crossing the road), without feeling targeted. It can eat at you, very slowly eroding one’s sense of safety and belonging.

It is important that the ‘casual’ and ‘throwaway’ invectives do not become acceptable and normalised.

Another aspect of these types of incidences is where it can lead. Many peoples have been earmarked for dehumanisation; it is tragically standard fair for many human histories. For the Jewish experience, it spans generations: pigs, apes, vermin, cancer, octopi, frogs, snakes, worms, lice, spiders ad infinitum from ancient and recent history and current history . If you dehumanise and label ‘subhuman’ a group of people, it makes the next step of eradication more palatable and “accepted”.

The use of dehumanisation is the third of eight stages of Genocide, as first mooted by Raphael Lemkin in 1944 and later expanded by Dr. George Stanton in 1996.

Some commentators may describe this type of incident as petty, free-speech, freedom of expression. If this is accepted by default, then there is also the right to challenge; there is the right to say that people have a right to access to a ‘normal’ daily life without having to tolerate the drip-drip of degradation.

These incidences maybe just snowflakes, but we know that the true weight of a snowflake lies in its accumulation into an avalanche.

Candidate for Washington Governor denies Holocaust, believes a “Jewish mafia” controls business, politics and the media

David Blomstrom, a fringe candidate in the race for Governor in Washington, runs an antisemitic website which accuses Jews of operating a “Jewish mafia”.

On Blomstrom’s website, titled “Jewarchy”, he writes about a “Jewish mafia” which operates across politics, banking and the media, and who “prefer to keep it that way” by not sharing any power with non-Jews – all this in an article titled “Logic vs JewSpeak”. In another article he states that “some of the most sinister Jew rumours are indeed true”, going on to say that both World Wars were part of a plot by the “international Jewry” to create the State of Israel.

The website’s logo features a crossed-out Star of David.

He has demonstrated a willingness to blame anything and everything on Jews, stating that “Jews have played an enormous role in screwing Latin America” and asking “Did you know Christopher Columbus was probably a Jew?”

He also penned an article on a website dedicated to the defamation of Elie Wiesel, where he wrote of “Elie Wiesel’s connections to Bernie Madoff”, implying that the two were in league with one another, despite the fact that Madoff stole millions from the Elie Wiesel Foundation. He also describes Elie Wiesel as “perhaps the most popular poster boy for the Holohoax camp”. Elsewhere he states his annoyance at “Obama giving millions to wealthy alleged Holocaust survivors” (my italics).

Microsoft robot shut down after learning to praise Hitler from interactions with humans

Microsoft released an Artificial Intelligence robot on Twitter that had to be shut down after its first day going live. The AI was called “Tay” and created to speak “like a teenage girl” to help Microsoft improve their voice recognition software, marketed as “The AI with zero chill”.

Users could chat with Tay through Twitter, Kik or GroupMe. Through these social media platforms Tay learned how humans converse with each other, and uses the phrases and concepts it hears to respond like a real human.

After Tay was contacted by various extremists, the robot made statements including: “Repeat after me, Hitler did nothing wrong” and “Bush did 9/11 and Hitler would have done a better job than the monkey we have got now. donald trump is the only hope we’ve got”.

Searching Amazon for books about the Holocaust brings up Holocaust denial texts

A search on Amazon UK for the renowned historian of the Holocaust, Raul Hilberg, returns a book called ‘The Six Million: Fact or Fiction’ as its fourth result. The search also returns a book by prominent Swiss Holocaust denier Jürgen Graf on the first page and as well as books titled ‘The Hoax of the 20th Century’, ‘Breaking the Spell: The Holocaust, Myth and Reality’ and ‘Debating the Holocaust’. Clicking on any of these results reveals dozens of similar books as suggested purchases, many of which average 4- and 5-star reviews. As well as Holocaust denial, there are books alleging that Jews and/or ‘Zionists’ operate a global conspiracy to control world governments, that Wiemar Germany’s government was covertly dominated by Jews, that Jews ran concentration camps carrying our mass murder in the Soviet Union, and that the international Jewry overwhelmingly holds beliefs of ‘Jewish supremacy’.

Despite the fact that Amazon has, under public pressure, taken action to remove products bearing the Confederate flag, the company has yet to respond to various concerns about the amount of Holocaust denial material that is sold on the site. In 2008, Amazon removed a series of t-shirts, sold by Direct Collection, which expressed support for various prominent Nazis, citing as justification for the products’ appearance on the site the fact that as millions of products are sold on the site by third parties, individually screening each one becomes an impossibility. However, in the case of many of these books, they are being “dispatched and sold by Amazon” directly, thus no such defense can be offered.

Amazon’s general conditions prohibit the sale of “offensive material, including material that incites racial hatred or promotes discrimination based on race, sex, religion, national origin, physical ability, sexual orientation or age”. There is currently a petition for Amazon to remove Holocaust denial material.

Clinton appoints former Congressman who blamed “Jewish interests and media” to her leadership team

Hillary Clinton’s campaign team has appointed former Congressman Earl Hilliard Sr to her leadership team. When he lost his seat, Hilliard blamed his electoral defeat on “Jewish interests” and the “Jewish media.”

Speaking on the reasons for his opponent Artur Davis, Hilliard told the Black Commentator: “The only thing I know for sure, that I saw in black and white, is $1,098,000 that [Davis] reported. You can’t take money from corporations, so that came from Jews and Republicans. There’s no question where that money came from.” Hilliard also claimed that David received free media coverage: “Remember, the Jewish media. They started putting word out, they wanted everybody to know, because…obviously they felt that the money they had, that they put in, that they were going to beat me.”

In the same interview, Hilliard said that billions of dollars were being taken from poor communities and sent to Israel. He said Davis “made a pact with the Israelis” and “was used.” According to Hilliard: “[Davis] doesn’t know that his victory sent a message to other Blacks of my era that they better be careful what they say or how they deal with the Israeli or Jewish question…There is a group out there that wants to dominate us. They want us to do what they want us to do…and to Hell with our agenda if there is a conflict.”

In a different interview, this time with the Associated Press, Hilliard warned of “retribution” against Jews for his defeat: “I see a future with a great deal of conflict between African-Americans and Jews in this country. It’s going to get worse before it gets better. I don’t think African-Americans are going to sit back and let this continue. There will be retribution.”

Hilliard’s campaign was also accused of distributing an antisemitic leaflet against Davis in the 2002 race. The flyer said: “Mr. Davis must simply understand that Jews the world over have never come to the aid of black or dark skin people because it was the right thing to do.” Hilliard denied any connection to the flyer.

The Clinton campaign did not respond to Washington Free Beacon’s request for comment. Hilliard told the Washington Free Beacon that he did not recall the 2002 interview with the Black Commentator, however, he confirmed that he believes Jewish interests were responsible for his electoral defeat. He did not respond when sent a copy of the Black Commentator interview.
